The original bearing was an open race bearing, greased via a servicing point in the side of the bell housing. This was replaced with a new sealed cartridge bearing which offered the practical advantage of reduced maintenance. Importantly the greasing point was retained because it also feeds onto the inner race of the bearing allowing maintenance if required.
