CALL FOR ART OF RESISTANCE We are a small group of women artists living on the Washington Coast calling ourselves Artists for Resistance. We see the right-wing take over of our nations arts as an attempt to squash artistic freedom of expression. Reminded of Germany in the 1930’s and the establishment of the Reich Culture Chamber, which considered modern western art to be “degenerate,” we decided to put on an art exhibit that would display art in direct opposition to the right-wing in any country, in any age, taking away artists’ freedom to create whatever art they want. We seek art that addresses environmental issues, women’s rights, LGBTQ issues, freedom of speech, protecting the Constitution and democracy, stopping illegal immigration sweeps, protecting environmental protections, supporting our allies and the people of Gaza, and anything else that represents resistance and the safeguarding of our values. We seek art that you believe represents resistance to what is happening to out country under the current regime. The exhibit is entitled : The Art of Resistance. The exhibit will be in a gallery in the Aberdeen Art Center, 200 W. Market, Aberdeen, Washington; and will run from June 28 – July 30, 2025. We are looking for ORIGINAL wall art including paintings, collages, photographs, fiber, and prints made with a printmaking process (no photographs of original art). We will accommodate a limited number of free-standing 3-D art as well. All artwork will be juried on the basis of whether the art adheres to the theme of resistance, meets standard gallery requirements regarding appearance and hanging (see attached guidelines), or based on limited space. Deadline for submission: June 15, 2025 Artists notified of acceptance: June 20, 2025 Drop-off artwork: June 25, 2025, 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Selected art shall be dropped off between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on June 25, 2025, in the Aberdeen Art Center’s central hallway. No other accommodations will be made and art not dropped off on that date and in that time period will not be included in the show. Unfortunately, we cannot accept mailed artwork. At the close of the show, you must pick up unsold artwork on July 31, 2025, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. The selected artists must commit to dropping off and picking up their art within the time period on the set dates -- we have no place to store art that is not picked up. |
