Few automobiles have become cultural icons quite like the 1967 Volkswagen Beetle. More than a means of transportation, the Beetle came to symbolize individuality, optimism, and the freedom of the open road. It became inseparable from a generation whose music, art, and ideals reshaped American culture. Created from thousands of recycled computer keys, The Road to Monterey bridges two revolutions: the mechanical age that inspired adventure and the digital age that followed. The title pays homage to the landmark 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a defining moment in music history that introduced many Americans to the Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Who, showcased Janis Joplin’s breakthrough performance, and became one of the defining events of the Summer of Love....
