The Artwork Of Doug Powell

Artist directory :: The Artwork Of Doug Powell

LOVE –Night Moves 41 x 41 x 2 Overall 37 x 37 Art dimensions Powder coated wrinkle black aluminum frame. Created entirely from recycled computer keys, the artwork takes visual cues from Robert Indiana’s iconic “LOVE” sculpture. Embedded within the mosaic is a lyrical scavenger hunt spelled out with the computer keys- featuring lines from four legendary rock bands born in or tied to Bostons musical heritage: Boston, The Cars, Aerosmith, and The J. Geils Band. The lyrics echo themes of nighttime longing, late-hour decisions, and emotional crossroads. Let me take you home tonight Mamma now it's alright Let me take you home tonight I'll show you sweet delight -Boston You can't go on, thinking nothing's wrong, but now Who’s gonna drive you home tonight -The Cars Don’t wanna close my eyes I don’t wanna fall asleep ‘Cause I’d miss...

About

Doug Powell
The innovative artist Doug Powell creates the illusion of three-dimensional form through the use and arrangement of recycled, or up cycled, computer keyboard keys. Up cycling has a positive environmental impact due to the rescue and re-purposing of manufactured objects. The reuse of materials has been employed by artists throughout history from Amish quilters and American folk artists to Modern Masters, such as Picasso, Joseph Cornell, and Robert Rauschenberg, all of whom have reused materials or found objects to create new, more complex works of art.
