About the Artist/Artist's Statement

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Susan Snodgrass Thompson is a native of Southern California, currently residing in Vista, CA. As a child she loved to draw, challenging herself to depict seemingly mundane subjects, such as the household vacuum, often from the odd point of view. In high school she was lucky to have an excellent art teacher who introduced her to a variety of mediums and techniques from etching and pastels to clay and acrylics. Susan vied with other area high school students and went on to win the annual art scholarship from a local college where she minored in Art. Since then her life has taken many interesting detours including raising her two sons, operating a residential home for the aged, a career in nursing, obtaining her a teaching credential, and the awesome joys of grandparenting. It is only now that she is finally coming full circle—back to her Art. Besides taking classes, and joining painting groups and associations, she has attended workshops with likes of internationally known artists such as Tom Fong and Ken Goldman.

“I have no regrets, for I have led a very rich life thus far, but I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to return to my first love, Art. It is what I feel like I was always meant to do.”

SNODGRASS THOMPSON
In the spirit of gratitude Susan signs her work with both her maiden (Snodgrass) and married name (Thompson), to pay tribute to the talent with which she was born, and the means she now has to fulfill it.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Today’s world runs fast and frantic, so that we can easily lose the underlying peace and tranquility inherent in the present moment.

Through my work I hope to give pause for reflection and respite, to provide the viewer an opportunity to stop . . . to appreciate a gesture or an expression, reminisce about the past, or be reminded of the the beauty of the natural world. The artist need not only express a reflection of reality, but  can help us break out of the limited box of the seemingly finite futility, and into a more hopeful future.

Through my work I also hope to awaken the creativity of others in whatever way they choose to find fulfillment, health and healing. Specifically, I look forward to realizing my vision of original art in every home, and an artist on every corner...painters, dancers, writers, musicians...doing what they do: creating for the inspiration of us all.

My work is done by hand, from pencil drawing to paint on paper. There is no digital manipulation involved. All materials are of archival quality. Your purchase is an original piece of art.

Affordability is important to me, in keeping with my vision of original art in every home.
