This painting is about the time I spent in Mexico visiting various ruins. I tried to get to the site early in the morning because by noon it was too hot to be in the sun. Mexico has a special bond with artists because of its colours, light, and visceral connection between the soul and the landscape. Its ancient temples connect with raw and brutal aspects of organized religion that have now been sanitized.
