This painting is from my 1967-1969 period of spiritual development when I was discovering the universal and non-sectarian elements that are in every long-lasting religious tradition. In my Christian tradition, Pentecost is a celebration of the spiritual nature and contagion of a religious movement. It is a real phenomenon in both the secular and religious domains where crowds of people can lose themselves in the spirit of an event. I found that the best way to convey this was with abstract expression of color and movement.
