This is from my 1969-1972 period of spiritual development. I was working through the materialization of people and the environment as a theme but the real subject was 'presence'. I want my art to have a personal presence-to confront the viewer as another person does. In order to achieve confrontational presence I created large hangings out of daily refuse and popular sexual imagery. Many of these pieces were from 10 to 25 feet in size but very light weight. This enabled me to suspend them on walls as a guerilla installation or to have them float freely catching ambient air currents in a room. I also worked with dancers, musicians, and laser artists to create dramatic multi-media projects. In this period I was moving out of sectarian belief systems into the primal area of sensing the presence of 'The Other' who I felt was sculpting a new belief system  for a global set of beliefs. It starts with mystery and presence.
