CD Cover/Insert Design: Advanced Photoshop
CD Cover/Insert Design: Advanced PhotoshopFor this assignment I went with the Foo Fighters
as my subject for the CD insert. I chose a color scheme that is somewhat in the primary colors. Judging from some
of their videos, the Foo Fighters have a playful sense of humor so I felt a fun
vibrant scheme would compliment that side of them. The term foo fighter was used in World War II to
describe UFOs, so I used that as a theme for the CD's contents. I put the band
on an old lunch box as a nostalgic nod to the Generation X'ers ( of which Dave
Grohl and I are from) and the video game
Space Invaders characters (a custom brush I made) floating in the sky behind
them. I used two custom brushes to make the crinkled
ground on which the lunch box is displayed and did a perspective transform to
add depth to it. I also used one of those brushes to make the composited images
on the lunch box look scratched and old. The lunch box on the back panel was
actually blue but I adjusted the hue until it matched the red in my Kuler color
scheme. For the center panel I chose an old 1950's styled comic that I turned
into a black and white and then colorized it using color layers.
