G-L Un Bouquet

This month's sewing challenge at the Bleuette Sewing Group is a pattern designed by Martha Nichols. " Un Bouquet "is an adorable style (1954) from the Gautier/ Languereau catalogue of ready-made outfits for Bleuette.

This version of Un Bouquet was created from antique Japanese kimono silk.  This beautiful fabric has just the right weight for a splendid drape, yet still showcasing the gorgeous print of dainty flowers scattered in a Japanese  garden.

The contrasting fabrics are a Belgium linen of soft apricot, and a crisp white Japanese pima broadcloth. The tiny buttons at the front and on the belt, are antique rose montees set in silver.

Her accessories are an important aspect of this sewing challenge, and include espadrilles ( pattern by Agnes Sura) and a "work bag" as depicted from a pattern in a 1917 La Semaine de Suzette magazine.

The "work" bag was used to carry mending and other sewing projects, but also can be used as a purse or tote. My version was made from a beautifully embroidered silk Duoppion. The bee motif is the perfect accompaniment for a lovely garden dress! The back is also silk and the lining co-ordinates with the shoes. As in the original pattern, the handles are carefully covered with embroidery stitches.

Her playful, summery espadrilles are striped cotton canvas with jute soles and silk ribbon ties. Ensemble sized to fit both reproduction and vintage Bleuettes.

Doll is not included .

Exquisite materials, unique design interpretations  and  masterful execution combine to make a creation from Bluebird Textiles  a treasure to spoil the finest of dolls.
