Caring for your Art Work

Artwork, whether an original oil/watercolor/pastel painting or a giclée, is an investment.  With care, the artwork will last many years.
Avoid hanging your artwork where direct sunlight will reflect on it, potentially fading the colors.   Keep away from direct heat.  When not hanging, always store in a climate controlled environment.  Avoid displaying your paintings where there is significant smoke in the environment.
Oil Paintings: If you notice dust accumulation on your painting, use a soft damp cloth to lightly wipe it away.  Never use soap or harsh cleaners.   Do not subject them to significant changes in heat and humidity, and they will last many years with proper care.
Watercolors:  These are framed behind glass.  Use caution when cleaning the glass; spray the cleaner on a soft clean rag and clean the glass.  Avoid spraying the cleaner directly on the glass, as it may seep under the glass into the painting.
Do not touch the watercolor as oils or residue from your fingers may adhere to the cotton watercolor paper.  Do not subject them to significant changes in heat and humidity, and they will last many years with proper care.

Pastels:
Pastels are painted with pure pigment with a minimum of binder.  They are rich in color and texture.  They are framed behind glass, with a "dust catcher" under the matting.  Over time, some pastel dust will make its way into the dust catcher.  This prevents it from sticking to the mat.  Use caution when cleaning the glass; spray the cleaner on a soft clean rag and clean the glass.  Avoid spraying the cleaner directly on the glass, as it may seep under the glass into the painting.  Do not touch the pastel as the pastel can brush off the painting.  They should be handled with care.  Do not subject them to significant changes in heat and humidity, and they will last many years with proper care.

ENJOY your collection.
