On the Nevada border with California lies a remote and lonely
landscape broken only by the two lane highways that bisect its valleys and the remains of the
outposts devoted to mineral extraction and the few inhabited towns remaining. The high Sierra
Pacific mountain peaks are nearby and strip the moisture from the clouds blowing across the
lonely region. Color does abound on the landscape and is derived from the minerals deposited
in the soils and rocks.
