Tuning of
the engine through use of a wide-band oxygen sensor is a modification which I have
chosen for several reasons. Primarily because the unleaded fuel which the Pig
currently runs on is significantly different to the leaded fuel intended for
use on the B60 engine in the 70's. And secondly because it allows for the engine tune to be
checked at regular intervals with easy and quick means for diagnosing running faults.
For setting the idle
mixture and slow running the AFR can be read directly from the laptop software without the need to data log as the vehicle is
stationary. This allows assessment of the carburetors pilot circuit operation and insight as to whether any adjustment is needed.
Data logging can then record the AFR response when cruising and at wider
throttle angles. This gives an insight as to how the accelerator pumps, main
circuit and economy device are performing and whether adjustment is needed.
