I'm posting the final/finished
'A Place to Hang Your Heart' chair's
images. As you may notice, there's a heart hanging from the back (upright) side
just below the arrow. This heart was purchased from Michael's to which I took a
nail file and sanded the design from its substrate and then painted it a bright
red.
Before spraying the chair with a
protective coat, I signed the underside of the seat, "Seat of the Soul #8. This
is what I have done with all of my hand painted chairs.
I sprayed the entire
chair with a triple thick glaze by Rust-Oleum brand. This dries with a clear
glass-like coating which helps pop and protect the chair's design.
Presently, it is on display
for silent bidding 'til the end of April. Of course, the hightest bidder will
be awarded the chair and the proceeds will go to the Sparrow Club.
If you have any questions
about my process or just want to chat . . . don't hesitate!
After
transferring the design, I begin applying acrylic paint and India ink. To give
continuity to the design, I chose a background similar to a Zentangle. . . a
doodling/design process (go to www.zentangle.com to understand this term and process.) I use a quill pen to apply the ink. Some say I must be so patient with
this method. Perhaps I am. However, for me, this method is like
meditation. . . it leaves me with a pleasant experience. Of course, I’m listening
to audiobooks while I’m doing this! It’s remarkable at how many books I can
enjoy while using the left and right brain all at once.
In the next photo, you can see
the planned design for the legs of the chair. You may be wondering, "Why
doesn't she do it freehand onto the legs of that chair?" By mapping out the
design beforehand, it allows me to determine if the design will compliment the
rest of the chair's design or not.
