In 1960, Mayer, exhibited as Joyce Harris, with Horizon Gallery in Greenwich Village, N.Y. Ada Yunkers, Theodore Roszak, Michael Ponce de Leon, Louise Nevelson, Richard Anuskievich and John I.H. Bauer juried her work into various group exhibitions. In 1966 Seong Moy placed her work in a group show at the National Arts Club in Manhattan. In 1969 Joyce Harris became Joyce Harris Mayer. She and her husband Bernard welcomed their son Robert into the world in 1971. Mayer did not exhibit again until 1974 when she had one-person shows with the Greenwich Art Society and Brunswick Media Center in Connecticut and exhibited in a group exhibition in the Bruce Museum.
