This painting is from my 1966-1968 period when I had transitioned into a more inclusive, non-sectarian understanding of religion. This transition was based on my reactions to the new openness of Vatican 2 and the understanding of the Bible and other sacred literature as relativistic. The readings and work I was doing in the academic disciplines of philosophy and history of religion greatly expanded by narrow understanding of religion during this period.
