Daily Painting: Flowers

Inspired by some abstract still life work online, I tried it myself.  This sort of thing does not come naturally to me at all.  With no tether to reality, it's hard to stick to a chosen path.  Should it be light and chalky all over, or richly colored?  Sparse or cluttered?
Right now the worst parts about this painting are the white outline of the vase, the long green leaves (which get lost in the background), and the harsh color scheme, which I would prefer to be more beautiful.  This isn't done, and may get no further attention, but it's my daily painting for today.
