This piece was a work of art I created in collaboration with a writer. Her and I were to work together for a group show in Spring 2018, however, the writer was brutally assaulted right before our meeting to work together on making art and poetry together collaboratively. We decided it was more important to reflect on this incident with the works we would create. She wrote a poem in response to the art I created based on my reaction to the incident. I depicted an effigy burning in a crowd of
victims, as a symbolic ritual is performed for those, to move on from their
memories and the hauntings from the pain inflicted. The piece is a personal protest against violence and abuse and the pain it creates. I gave the original drawing to my poet-collaborator as a gift.
