This metalwork originated as a piece from Deer Ridge Correctional Institute in Madras. I purchased the piece as the basis for my grand-daughter's wedding gift.
As you can see, I've added to the original metalwork and have left space for Tiana to add her own photos and magnets.
The GFWC of
Central Oregon is once again sponsoring the "Chair-ity for Children" project,
benefiting Sparrow Clubs. This image shows the bare bones before I begin to
embellish it. My theme for this chair is "Time".
I've been interested in Zentangle for a long time. I also love to work in pen and ink. This has led me to creating these one-of-a-kind inserts for Starbucks tumblers.
They make for a GREAT Christmas and/or birthday gift!
Look for more tumbler creations in additional blog entries--coming soon.
Some of you may have been wondering about when I would blog again. Well, here are images of what I've been up to. I joined ten artists in an amazing art journey to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Each of us created an art journal representative of our impressions of Mexico and of the artwork we created during the trip.
I just love getting lost in the colorful whimsy of your art and look forward to seeing a lot more! The Mexico Journal is just delightful - and gives me inspiration to paint more!
This is the beginning of the treasure map a carry over of the theme of a pirate treasure map of memories . . .
Background color applied with acrylic will allow the india ink to move smoothly on the surface.
Checking for correct placement of images before transferring. These were previously done on tracing paper by hand.
Close up images of the chair seat area.
For the top of the chair, I incorporated the schools that Justin attended over the years . . . old and new. As a side note, I attended the school in the center.
Located under the seat where family members will be able to sign their names and comments . . . the real treasures!
Don't forget to note the family motto
. . . "Calm Down!"
This indicates Justin's hunting trail through his life in images. Not to forget the footprints of his dog, Lucy.
The back of the chair shows the year Justin graduated from high school. Justin's initials are the same as his father and his great-grandfather.
Me with the final chair. Justin and the entire family loved it!
My cousin has commissioned me to paint a chair for her
grandson as a gift from the family members. This is a challenge, in that I'll
be designing from a series of sent pictures and information about a young man I
know very little about! However, I'm coming up with ideas as I proceed. For
example, while placing the high school mascot onto the spacers (check out
photos), I remembered that my cousin sets up treasure hunts for her grandsons
every Xmas. What a clever idea! Giving them an activity to do while WAITING to
open their presents. So amazingly; I'll be incorporating a treasure map! I'll
keep you posted as to this idea's progress in my next blog.
I'm posting the final/finished
'A Place to Hang Your Heart' chair's
images. As you may notice, there's a heart hanging from the back (upright) side
just below the arrow. This heart was purchased from Michael's to which I took a
nail file and sanded the design from its substrate and then painted it a bright
red.
Before spraying the chair with a
protective coat, I signed the underside of the seat, "Seat of the Soul #8. This
is what I have done with all of my hand painted chairs.
I sprayed the entire
chair with a triple thick glaze by Rust-Oleum brand. This dries with a clear
glass-like coating which helps pop and protect the chair's design.
Presently, it is on display
for silent bidding 'til the end of April. Of course, the hightest bidder will
be awarded the chair and the proceeds will go to the Sparrow Club.
If you have any questions
about my process or just want to chat . . . don't hesitate!
