The Judeo-Christian myth of Adam centers around a tree and its role in launching Adam into the mortal world. The tree is again used in Christian mythology in the wood of the cross that Christians believe saved them from the 'sin' of Adam and his tree. There are other references here that are obvious to people familiar with other elements of this mythology.
