St. Augustine is one of the most important and influential thinkers of Western civilization. In his book 'Confessions' he describes how, as a young man, he was preoccupied with sex and how when he got older and was not as preoccupied with it he wrote that he wanted to renounce the 'flesh' but 'not yet'.
