This painting is about cognitive dissonance. The dissonance is about the direct, clear call of an institution and its mind set versus the indirect, ambiguous whispers of an individual journey into unchartered waters. A choice that all of us have to make at some time in our lives. It is appropriate that the 'first' man also had to make this choice...it is the choice that makes one a 'person' or a cog.
