Joan and the Whale
Joan and the Whale

A painting about the Jonah myth. Most of the prophets are reluctant to accept their profession. In Jonah's case he tries to escape by sea only to be thrown overboard and carried by a 'big' fish to where he was told to go in the first place. When he gets there he preaches what he was told to do and surprisingly the people convert ( to Jonah's disappointment ). In this painting I have made Jonah into Joan to say that divine election does not have a gender bias even though most organized religions do.
