Mary Stiewig
Fiber Artist
About the Artist:
Mary Stiewig came to the world of Quilts after many brief
interludes with crafts such as knitting, crochet, crewel embroidery,
rug-making, and macramé. A chance beginning quilt-making class with an
amazing artist then led to a 30-year journey filled with the creation of
hundreds of quilts, and leading to her current career as a Fiber
Artist. From the beginning she loved making quilts but found it
difficult to follow patterns exactly, always wishing to “change it up” and make
them her own. Rather than working exclusively with cotton, she now uses a
multitude of fibers to design and create her own representational and abstract
pieces.
