Now, a word about pricing fabric art quilts.

Most artists price their quilts beginning at $1.00 per square inch. When a quilt is sold in a gallery, the gallery usually keeps a commission of between 30% and 40%.

It is for this reason, that when a quilt is purchased from the quilter, the price is negotiable.

The framed quilt below, with non-glare glass called "Colors of Denali," was sold for $1300.

Each quilt takes between 3 and 4 months from beginning to completion and represents 180 to 240 hours of labor. Then you must add in the complexity of the design and the cost of fabric.

It is easy to see that the majority of quilters work for the love of the creation – not for the income the work brings.

Mary is willing to have any quilt framed for a buyer; however, she does suggest that the buyer consider having the quilt framed to his/her personal framing tastes.
