Prophets do not tell the future but apply a set of beliefs and a knowledge of history to what they find currently happening in their culture and then draw the probable consequences. In the crush of daily life most of us don't remember the mistakes of the past and are thus prone to commit them again. It is a prophet's role to remind us. This role is one of the traditional roles of a society's artists and priests.
