Costume de Bécassine 1908

SO French, so famous, and so charming, are the words that I will use to describe this familiar costume.
Becassine, a cartoon character appearing in La Semaine de Suzette,  began as a page filler in the very first edition.  She returned because of popular demand, and thereafter became a regular feature. Becassine wears  the folk costume of the Breton region and I have interpreted  this one using the original pattern from La Semaine de Suzette 1908, with the finest of fabrics and couture sewing techniques.

Her dress is mainly of hunter green wool, with a bodice of pin-tucked cotton, red wool crepe, and black linen.  The sleeves are made with black velvet, as is the band that embellishes the hemline. Her sweet apron is of fine batiste with cotton cording ties. Her cap is crisp white linen.
Becassine is often shown with wooden clogs or slip-on wool sabots. The L.S.D.S. pattern also suggests the Breton tradition of fancy leather shoes  embroidered for the occasion of a festival.  I have cobbled a pair of those for Bleuette using scarlet for the berries and gold thread for the stems. Included are her striped jersey stockings!  This ensemble was sized to fit both vintage and reproduction Bleuettes.

Exquisite materials, unique design interpretations  and  masterful execution combine to make a creation from Bluebird Textiles  a treasure to spoil the finest of dolls.

 NOTE: doll is not included.

How may I purchase patterns from you? Interested in a Becassine pattern for a Bleuette and several other patterns for the Bleuette.
