Das Mӓdchen ohne Hӓnde£250
The girl without hands/The armless maiden. W 24"x H 33"
A well known Grimm fairytale which has global parallels.
I have chosen the moment in the story when the mutilated maiden is wandering through the forest, her child strapped to her back. The forest is a cold, bewildering place, but she must find her way through it in order to fully develop her personality (ie her baby).
THE ARMLESS MAIDEN
you are the maiden
with no arms
finding your way
through the woods
through the tangled trees
through the tangled thoughts
beneath a subliminal sky
you carry your child so full
of grief
on your back
together
you look like a tree
with two branches
these are not your arms
your arms were cut off by
your father
but you will find your way
grow strong and bright as the moon
you will love your child
your love will branch out
like two arms
ready to embrace
all suffering
