This Theyyam honours the goddess Muchilot Bhagavathi. A Brahmin girl of twelve, famously bright, responded to a challenge from the great scholarly men, who became so jealous they expelled her from the village and she wandered, miserable and lonely, until she came to Shiva's temple and stood on burning coals to pray to him. She asked a passing youth to throw the jar of oil he was carrying over her, whereupon she burst into flames and died. The youth saw the girl's face reflected in the jar, now full of oil, and knew she had become a goddess.
