Many theyyams represent the deity with huge ears to hear divinely, and a giant mouth to speak prophetically.   This is an agricultural god, for  agricultural land, and for fertility and prosperity.  The individual urge for fertilization is transformed into a social urge for agricultural fertility.

The power of my blood-red robe,

The power of my staff

Make spirit gods speak in rhyme,
And babbling brooks laugh,

Make shadow men stalk the hills,
And trees split in half.

The power of my blood-red robe,
That billows like a sheet –

Makes plants spring up everywhere,
And flowers at my feet.
