I have been with Zhibit.com now for over 6 years. My work and my styles vary and have changed over time. Although I like detail I have steered away from it at times. However, I feel that my detail work is my true style and have experimented with it in various ways. I have to add that my Art is a continual process and can change with time allowing me to divert away and into other styles. However i feel that my Art is recognizable. I am an unfortunate Individual in that I developed and currently have Arthritis and limitations in my hand that affects my grip with my Pastel work. I have started to find ways to free up the pressures of my hand a grip. This is moving me into my latest style and is currently in the developing stages. However I feel that my Artistry is still recognizable. My previous career as a Dental Hygienist could be the main culprit of my dexterity issues. An unfortunate Occupational hazard. But I am now enjoying the adjustments I've made. .
Early in my life I began an interest in Art and I feel that I had an Artistic ability but I needed to develop it. I learned the fundamentals of Drawing and Painting in College over the course of my lifetime. Although there has been some limitations to my Art education, I have studied on my own as well as having been tutored by Renowned Artist that were very knowledgeable Artist. My Artwork reflects the learning and progression process. As I have mentioned I feel my Artistry reflects many influences that I have. It is relatively obvious in some of my work that they reveal a an influence from other Artist like Vincent Van Gogh. I do not set out to create a painting that has a likeness to Vincent Van Gogh. I feel that my work is innate and consequently appears as a likeness. Many times I don't even recognize the similarity until I have completed my Painting. There are many emotions that are connected to Style. If there are similarities I cannot stop painting the way I choose to. It also seems that my Artwork has developed into a somewhat Impressionistic Style due to the fact that I like to create a mood which I strive for especially in my Landscapes.
One of my newest ventures that I fell into was Portraiture. My interest to create form led me to create faces with color in mind. Portraiture as I have discovered is complicated in that the subject's features are not the only consideration. I've also used Graphite Pencil in creating Portraits. Graphite Pencil is the best medium for me to depict details.
I began a strong interest in Art at a young age. As I look back I somehow realized even then how much Art meant to me. It has been something important to me. I always dreamed of being a successful Artist through skill and talent. I was driven by my desire to create Artwork that could be recognized but also to express myself through my artistry. I have pursued my own interest in subjects that matter to me such as Colour, Design and also subjects like Astonomy. Wildlife and Nature have inspired many of my paintings. I also challenge myself with different aspects of Art such as capturing sunlight on water or perspective. Sometimes it's not easy but I work hard at it. I take my Artwork seriously most of the time and would like to sell my Art. However there have been rewards to being an Artist that go beyond selling. Being able to create Art through self-expression is something very rewarding to me. Feeling something about the external part of the World and being able to create this on paper or canvas is gratification and a gift.
It is important for me to mention that each of the various mediums I use presents different challenges and requires techniques that are unique to the medium. This in turn can affect my style. It is also important to recognize their characteristics and the benefits and limitations of each meduim.
Making Art is a venture for me where I can be creative and use my developed talent without all the barriers of conventional rules and conformity.
